Claudius Crozet was born in France on December 31 1789.In the fall of 1816 Crozet came to America. Crozet was a immigrant coming to the US. He came to the quiet area of the Piedmont Region. Before Crozet became famous for the railroad he taught at West Point. He was a professor of engineering. There was a mountain system called the Blue Ridge. He was part of a group was building railroads. There was perfect to start a train system. There he started to dig in the mountain. Crozet ran into many problems while making the railroad. The problems were with the underground water and the shipment of dirt and coal. Crozet was Virginia's chief engineer. Crozet help engineer the longest tunnel in the US at the time he lived. The tunnel was 4,273 feet long. Crozet resigned at West Point because of reason of VMI coming along to him. Crozet attended a college for engineers. The college was one the best for engineers in his time. One cool fact about Crozet is that he used the chalkboard and was one of the people to use it. Also worked on other transportation projects in Virginia and the US before he decided to say in Virginia. Now before he decided to stay in Virginia he went to Louisiana to work but then came back.
